CORE BELIEFS

of the Persevering Website

Christian counseling empowers people to grow

in the knowledge and wisdom of God, equipping them

to experience Jesus Christ's "very breath and blood flowing

through them, nourishing them so that they will

grow up healthy in God."

(Ephesians 4:15, 16, The Message Bible)

The following are the core foundational beliefs

of the Persevering Counseling Website:

  1. God is a benevolent Creator who desires active involvement in the life of every person. God knows all about us yet loves us anyway. He pursues us, and invites us into relationship. He always keeps His promises; He desires healing for every person. There is nothing or no one too hopeless for the Lord Jesus Christ.

  2. The Bible is the inspired truthful authority of God, and is relevant for all life situations. It has the answers for mental and emotional issues and illnesses, enabling us to "be fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do" (2 Timothy 3:17, New Living Translation).

  3. God created human beings in His image with a mind, emotions and will. Fallen man fails in each of these areas; however through Jesus Christ, a renewed (born again) person can experience a reversal of the effects of sin.

  4. Man is born with an inherent sin nature and needs spiritual healing through salvation which is free to all people through faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible says that all have sinned and need a Savior. The only true healing begins through coming to Jesus in repentance and faith, and trusting Him for salvation.

  5. At salvation, a person is transformed into a new creation with a new spiritual nature, equipped with power, love and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)

  6. Mind renewal is necessary for growth and healing. Believers have a divine mandate to control their thoughts and emotions, bringing them into agreement with the Lord Jesus Christ. "Fix your attention on God -- you'll be changed from the inside out!" (Romans 12:2, The Message Bible)

  7. Maturity is a process which, through the fruit of the Holy Spirit and practicing the lifestyle of Jesus Christ, brings us closer to God. We draw near, give up and reach out to God.

  8. Fellowship and accountability through a community of believers is necessary for continued growth and healing. A local church encourages, strengthens, and builds up one another. Deeper healing and nurturing takes place as a person participates in God's family.
